This year the Luncheon will be held at the Myer Mural Hall, located on the 6th floor of the iconic Myer city store situated in the heart of Melbourne. This year our nominated charity is the Australian Childhood Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting children and families devastated by abuse, family violence and neglect.
Mural Hall is so named because of the impressive collection of 8 original Murals displaying influential figures from the arts, opera, literature, dance and fashion.
For the last 78 years, thousands of shoppers and tourists have marvelled at the murals
located in the Myer Mural Hall, but few know the story behind them. In 1934 Sidney Myer,
the founder of the Myer Emporium commissioned Napier Waller to create a series of
murals that would act as a tribute to women and their achievements throughout history.
Taking approximately one year to complete and painted at Waller’s studio at Fairy Hills in
Ivanhoe, the murals were then transported to the Mural Hall. The completed works are a
celebration of influential figures in the areas of art, history, opera, literature, dance and
fashion. Sidney Myer failed to ever see the works as they were competed only a few
months after his death in 1935.
The AWOYA AGM will be held at the riverside Crowne Plaza Hotel Melbourne on the morning of Sunday 5 October 2014.
